Ethiopian Lentils (Yemisir Wot)

This recipe was adapted to a crock pot. We served this with injera bread, from our local Ethiopian restaurant.  Delicious, and makes a TON of lentils! (Pictured with Tibs.)

Yemisir Wot (Berbere Lentils)

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cup coconut oil
  2. 2 small to medium yellow onions, chopped
  3. 2 cloves garlic, pureed
  4. 1 tbsp fresh ginger, peeled and pureed
  5. 1/4 cup berbere spice (Purchased from my local Ethiopian shop.)
  6. 1 cup dried red lentils, washed
  7. 3 cups water
  8. kosher salt, to taste

  1. In a Crock Pot add all of the ingredients.  Set on LOW for 8 hours.   Stir once or twice.
